Test Operator

Test Operator

What did you study and why?

I studied A2 electro mechanics but I’ve always been interested in airplanes, so I decided to go to Oostende to study Bachelor airplane mechanics. But due to the fact that I am color blind, I had to stop these studies in my last year.

What were you looking for in your (first) job?

I wanted to do something in the aerospace industry, I wanted to make a contribution to this interesting industry. So I went looking for a job in this branch and I ended up with Asco. I saw that Asco was organizing a “open house” and I found my job in the aerospace industry. I started in January 2008 as CNC operator.

What was your first impression of Asco as employer and how did things go during your first few weeks/months?

My first impression of Asco was that its equipment is very modern. The Asco equipment is very different than the machines I knew from school. Asco is really using the latest technology. I really learned ‘to work’ in Asco.

What is the exact content of your job and how do you see yourself evolving in Asco?

I started as a CNC operator in Asco 1, where we make slat tracks for the Boeing 737 and parts of the Boeing 747/800. I had to make sure that the machine kept working. This means I had to solve problems which could occur with the machine. After 6 years it was time for me for a new challenge and I got the opportunity to work in the new Asco building (Asco 8) where I can work as a test operator on the new high tech machines.

Why is Asco the right choice for you?

Asco is the right choice for me because of the open and friendly environment and I have a very good contact with my colleagues. Besides that, I am interested in aerospace industry and it gives me great joy to work in an industry which I am interested in.
