EHS Specialist
Job Description:
Assist the company in all EHS related activities to safeguard the company, its employees and all its business partners from health, safety and environmental risks or threats while complying with all relevant rules and regulations.
The EHS Specialist will report directly to the Operations Manager.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable ASCO, federal and state occupational environmental standards.
- Compliance monitoring.
- Risk assessment.
- Assist with policy development.
- Investigate incidents.
- Oversee waste management.
- Prepares and submits all required safety and environmental compliance reports, logs and all other required reporting and recordkeeping. Interfaces with the various agencies when required.
- Works with HR Manager regarding Workers Comp administration and claims procedures.
- Ensures OSHA training of all employees is completed in a timely fashion.
- Provides leadership to drive continuous improvements in plant safety and environmental culture to ensure that Asco exceeds the minimum requirements for regulatory compliance.
- Advises, instructs, and coaches the staff and all stakeholders on various EHS-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery, etc.).
Profile:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health & Safety, engineering or related field
Skills / Experience:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, experience as a Safety Officer preferred.
- Strong understanding of relevant EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Experience with risk assessment methodologies.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Knowledgeable in wastewater treatment.
- Able to handle multiple complex activities simultaneously.
- Must possess strong verbal communication skills and effective writing skills which are essential for writing reports, protocol, generating documents, communicating with appropriate authorities.
- Take initiative and display a pro-active no-nonsense attitude.
- Must be stress resistant.
- Ability and willingness to learn and support team in regulatory compliance areas unrelated to EHS as needed.
- Ability to design and deliver training to all levels of the organization.
