Fixture Designer

Asco is now looking for a Fixture designer.  This fixture designer is responsible for the complete design of tooling used at ASCO to manufacture and assemble high precision aircraft components in cooperation with peoples from other ID sections and/or production line.   

 Job Description

New or modified Process definition :

During the Industrialization Phase of a new project (new contract or modification/re-engineering), together with the rest of the project team, elaborate the most optimized manufacturing processes and guarantee that the project objectives and the customers’ specifications are respected.

  • Propose design / specs modifications to facilitate the manufacturing and minimize costs
  • Estimate fixture cost and set-up time of fixtures

 Design of: fixtures for the new/modified process :

Design of 3D models, 2D drawings to manufacture fixtures and production aids to provide all methods means necessary to the internal (& external e.g. support to subcontractors) production units, taking into account the safety and ergonomic aspects

  • Detailed design and drawings of the fixture components for fixture manufacturing including the bill of material
  • Defending the 3D fixture concept and optimizing the fixture within a technical team constituted with people from the Industrial Development department and shop floor representatives
  • Making a clear setup procedure to be used by operators
  • Provide necessary inputs (e.g. 3D session, forging model integration into 3D session,..) towards Method agents and NC programming teams on fixture, manipulation & handling tools

 Technical support during fabrication of Fixtures around fixture design topics

Provides technical design support towards fixture shop or external subcontractor during fixture manufacturing in order to find solution on process issue.

    • Provides necessary support on fixture drawings & models (design intent) towards subcontractors & fixture shop
    • When requested, assists in technical support on site at fixture manufacturer (manufacturing,
    • When requested, provides technical support to Procurement department in auditing… external subcontractors (fixture manufacturing)

 First parts set-up follow-up

Follow-up of first parts set-up during the product manufacturing operations to ensure process stability.

  • Provide necessary support for the first use of the fixture (review fixture installation on machine…)
  • Together with Production Operators, follow up of the mounting, dismounting and manipulation of the first parts
  • Train the first team of operators and Process Technicians
  • Quality follow-up of the first part and implement corrective actions
  • Define Standard Times for mounting, dismounting & handling of parts
  • Provide assistance to shop floor in fixture or CAD related problems

 Profile :

Education : Industrial Engineer (Master in Engineering)

Languages : Frenchand/or Dutich – English is a must

Skills / Experience :

  • Knowledge of Industrial Design on 3D en 2D drawings (Industrial experience is a must)
  • Experience with tooling, knowledge of standard components (Norelem, DIN, …)
  • IT knowledge: CATIA V5, Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Social, team player, analytical, eager to learn, leadership
  • Ability to travel several times a year.
  • Automotisation knowledge is an asset.
